Bill Marquard - Author, Wal-Smart: What it really takes to profit in a Wal-Mart world.

"The best guy I've ever known at fuzzy logic" is how one CEO described Bill Marquard. Marquard's penchant for fuzzy logic helps leaders across many industries to connect the dots in this new economy defined by dominant global players such as Wal-Mart.

As a consultant, Marquard has advised some of the world's most influential and forward-thinking companies. As a former Fortune 200 leader himself, he has walked the executive's path. In both capacities, he has won praise for his work to craft compelling new business strategies. He specializes in serving as a thinking partner for senior executives, where he provides a valuable "unbiased opinion"--frank feedback, insightful questions, and bold challenges.

Marquard designed Wal-Mart's first-ever strategic planning process and ran it for three and one-half years. He has advised over 100 companies in 25 industries, including McDonald's, Walt Disney World, Meijer, Citibank, CompUSA, Denny's, Tyson Foods, the Brick Industry Association, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Marquard spent 17 years at Ernst & Young--8 as a partner--before becoming the executive vice-president and chief knowledge officer of Fleming, a major consumer goods wholesaler and retailer. Most recently, he co-founded Marble Leadership Partners, Inc. with his wife Leslie, a certified executive coach and corporate transformation specialist. Marble Leadership Partners provides strategic planning, business transformation, and executive coaching services across a broad range of industries. Its mission is to make executives wildly successful.

For eight years, Marquard served as an adjunct professor of finance at Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management. His strategy expertise has been featured on CNN, and he has lectured at DePaul University, Northwestern University Law School, and Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.

He earned a BA at the University of Notre Dame and an MBA at Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management.
